I feel like I’ve found my long lost soul mate. I’ve waited and waited for Essie to release something of this sort. Ever since Sally Hansen released their Gel range, I knew Essie wouldn’t be far behind.
If you know me at all, you’d know that I’m Essie’s number one fan. I love their formula, colour range and most all their brush – honestly no other nail polish brand compares to Essie’s brush.
As soon as I saw this in Boots I had to buy it. I’ve been trying to control my nail polish addiction recently, but I just knew in my heart that I needed to break the rehabilitation for this bad boy.
A part of me was slightly wary of the fact that it might be a total waste – the risk of basically flushing £9.99 down the toilet. But of course, I bit the bullet and bought it (using the excuse that I could so totally write a review of it on my blog, obviously).
I can confirm that it gets my seal of approval. I really love it.
It’s basically just a top coat that you apply over any nail polish (although Essie are a bit cheeky claiming it should be used with an Essie polish).
It’s thick, which gives the “gel effect”, leaving your nails looking glossy and professional. I was slightly worried that it might almost be too thick, causing the nail polish vulnerable to smudging… But surprisingly it seems to be fine, even after a base and two thick coats of colour.
And of course, most importantly there are no chips so far either – yay!
In case you’re wondering I’m wearing Essie’s “Private Weekend” – a white colour with tiny specks of sparkles. This is so far the only pure white I’ve found that isn’t too sheer/ requires 10 thousand coats.
