I can hardly believe that it’s the second month of 2017 already. It feels like only last night that it was New Year’s Eve, the excitement of the new year right at our finger tips. January was a strange month for me. I was ill for the first week – one of those typical relentless winter colds. After I managed to battle it off, I fell straight into my new routine since finishing my daily devotionals. It involves waking up, reading my bible and novel writing pretty much the whole day. It was super fun the first several days, but since then my creativity has somewhat dwindled. Some days are good days – I manage to write a few thousand words and I feel so sure about each and every single one of them. Other days, quite like yesterday, are just a total flop and I question e v e r y t h i n g.
But I guess that’s all just part of the process. Not feeling quite so ready to pick up my novel-writing pen for today just yet, I thought I’d occupy myself by revisiting my trusty old blog. Oh, I really have missed you. Seeing as I’ve been MIA for most of January, I thought I’d have a cheeky little catch up and tell you about a few of the things I absolutely loved this past month. Leeeet’s go!
As you can see, I have no actual picture of the gym or myself within the gym (you don’t want to see that). Instead, here’s a picture of the gym key they gave me which I’m still yet to use. I know it’s so cliché to join the gym in January, but I couldn’t not include it in this post. I’m not an actual gym goer, explaining as to why I haven’t used the key. I’m a gym class goer. I have fallen head over heels in-love with Pilates this month. It’s all about toning the body, particularly the abs (ooh yeah, watch out beach hol 2017). One of my besties, Paige, has recently also signed up to the gym so we’re going to Pilates it together forever. We do the occasional Spin class too, but they tend to leave us a bit too frazzled for our liking.
Aussie – 3 Minute Miracle Winter Remedy
The winter months seem to do no favours for my frizz-friendly hair. Just as I come out of my spin class feeling frazzled, so does my hair feel when I leave the house without having used this 3 Minute Miracle deep treatment. When I get into the shower I squeeze a generous amount of this onto the ends of my hair before shampooing, leaving it there whilst I do all my other shower things. After a good few minutes I’ll rinse it off, follow with a shampoo and then finish with a conditioner as normal. My hair thanks me for it each and every day.
The Passion Translation – 1 & 2 Corinthians
Okay. So this could easily go into my 2017 favourites already. The Passion Translation is one of the newer Bible translations. It’s absolutely beautiful in every aspect. It’s a bit like the Message translation, but also not at the same time. It’s easy to read as well as thought-provoking, nudging the soul ever so gently. For every day this month I have been reading a couple of chapters from 1 & 2 Corinthians, a bit like my own study. I do like to have my NIV or NLT versions sitting beside it so that I can directly compare them. I must say that I have read Corinthians through a number of times before but never have I taken so much away from it as with this translation.
If you’re looking to become more serious about your Bible-reading, but struggle to stay focused or understand it, pick up one of the Passion Translation books. You will fall in love with the Word without a doubt.
Welsh Lavender – Calm Balm
This has been a favourite product of mine for way longer than January, but I don’t think I’ve mentioned it on my blog before. My best friend works at a lavender farm in Wales, and recommended me this balm. I used it for my lips, any little cat scratches (Peachy loves to play finger wiggle) or just a dry spot in general. It’s smells beeeeautiful, as well as actually being effective. I’m slightly addicted to it, going crazy if I forget to pack it in my handbag when I’m out.
Benefit – Gimme Brow
I used this brow gel a couple of years ago, and it was one of my favourite make-up products of all time. When it ran out though, I never got round to buying myself a new one. The slightly painful price always added a delay to the process, and eventually I just got out of the habit of doing my eyebrows. I already have quite thick, dark brows so I’ve never really felt the need to properly fill them in. They just need the occasional taming and shaping.
A few weeks ago however, I splurged a few of my Boots points and treated myself with a new Gimme Brow. And oh, now I have fallen back in love with it as I did in 2014. It’s so easy to use and so effective at the same time. I love the new packaging too.
Karen Kingsbury – The Baxter Family series
Oh, my heart. I have been more than obsessed with these books the past couple of months. I talk about these characters as if they’re actually real, and they’re actually my best friends. There are 7 books in total of this Redemption series, but it then goes on to another 15 books afterwards (it’s confusing, but so worth it). Karen Kingsbury has essentially written about this family for years. Their lives revolve around God and each other, and every book brings a new obstacle and mountain to climb. I won’t give away too much – but if you love God, love a bit of drama and love big, long, never-ending series’, Karen Kingsbury is your girl.
