It’s the 1st of February and I’m officially finished with Winter. I’m more than ready to open the door to kick Winter out and to give Spring a big warm welcome back into my life. Okay so I’m fully aware that we still have a good few months to go until it’s officially Spring, but to help myself through this tough, cold time I thought I would say goodbye to the dark, winter nail polish colours and bring out the lighter, softer colours. I’m currently really into the icy blues and purples, the bright whites and the pale pinks. I guess that these colours do fall in to the “Winter” shades, but I feel like they have the tiniest tint of Spring in them too. Anyone reading this post who doesn’t understand this obsession with nail polishes is probably thinking that I’m well and truly insane. I promise I’m not as crazy as it appears.
So for those who share my love for pretty nails, here are the 7 nail polishes I’m really loving at the moment…
OPI – ‘You’re Such A Budapest’
This is my favourite shade at the moment. Isn’t it beautiful!? It looks just as pretty in real life too. Not only do I love the colour but I love the name OPI have given it.
So I must admit that I only own a couple of OPI polishes. I like OPI, but my heart lies with Essie (their formula and stay is like no other). The only problem is that OPI has sooooo many more shades. So in that department, Essie really need to step up their game.
It’s such a beautiful purple, that surprisingly goes with a lot of other colours. I haven’t worn it with an outfit yet that clashed. Yay!
Essie – ‘Private Weekend’
I’m aware that I have blabbed on about this nail polish for probably more times than is acceptable. But it’s my one true love. White nails are in and I’m sure they will continue to be in for a long time. It’s a statement – an easy one at that.
I’m not sure why but for some reason this particular nail polish lasts forever! Normally when I paint my nails they start chipping withing 5/6 days. But this polish stays on my nails perfectly for almost two weeks. That alone makes me love it and reach for it even more.
Essie – ‘Cocktail Bling’
I’ve owned this colour for a while and always bring it out this time of the year. It’s such a pretty, subtle colour. I can’t decide whether it’s more grey or more blue. But it’s somewhere in between. This colour obviously goes with everything you would ever want to wear. For me, this is shade a staple, definitely must-have for Winter.
Essie – ‘Chinchilly’
I got given this polish as a Christmas present from a lovely friend. I love how it’s not one of the classic shades that everyone is normally wearing. It’s different. It’s a neutral grey. It’s slightly more grey in real-life than it’s appearing in the photo above. A beautiful shade for winter and autumn. I’d particularly recommend this colour to anyone who is working somewhere where they aren’t allowed the bright/stand-out polishes on their nails.
Barry M – ‘Huckleberry’
This is more of a brighter, fun shade – it’s an ice blue. I was obsessed with this colour this time last year. I was wearing it all the time and I received so many compliments and questions as to what polish brand it was. The ever faithful, Barry M, of course.
I really, really, really recommend Barry M ‘Gelly Hi-Shine’ polishes to anyone with a small budget. Their nail polishes are incredible considering their super affordable price-tag. They have a wide range of shades – with both the bright, out there colours as well as the more neutral, subtle and paler shades.
Essie – ‘Fiji’
Of course, this wouldn’t be a good nail-related blog post without mentioning my faithful friend, Fiji. I have been in love with this nail polish for around 4 years. I have been through far too many bottles to keep count. I give it away to friends on their birthdays.
It’s the most beautiful colour that looks so classy and elegant on anyone and everyone’s nails. It goes with everything. I can’t big it up enough.
Everyone needs a Fiji in their life.
Essie – ‘Go Ginza’
This is essentially the purple version of Fiji. It’s a really, really, pale purple. If Fiji didn’t exist, this would be my Fiji replacement. Such a beautiful, subtle colour that looks flattering whatever the occasion.
