Matthew 4:4 – Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'”
I have an unhealthy relationship with chocolate. I need it every day at roughly 2pm and again at 7pm. I can need infinite amounts, there really are no limits. Usually 15 minutes after indulging, I start to feel sick and bloated. The feeling remains for the rest of the day, but it doesn’t stop me from indulging the following day.
What are you indulging in spiritually? Is it healthy? Does it leave you feeling rough and frustrated with yourself?
Sometimes without even realising it, we indulge in our own negativity. We eat up our negative thoughts, letting it control our actions and ultimately our lives. We don’t notice the unhealthy impact it’s having on our every day lives.
Jesus tells us here, plain and clear, what kind of diet is the best for our spiritual lives. We need to eat up the Word of God – every single word of it – so that we can have a healthy, balanced diet that is for us and helps us through each and every day.
Don’t let your heart and mind starve from hunger of the Word.
