Psalm 119:9-11 – How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I may not sin against you.
It says in John 10:10 that the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy. He sounds like any bad guy in a movie. And from watching plenty of movies, I’ve learned that the bad guy comes unexpectedly – he comes without warning and whenever the main character is off guard.
As children of Christ, we cannot afford to be off guard. We need to be armed, ready to defend ourselves when the enemy comes. I read a book recently, that quoted this verse, highlighting how important it is that we memorise Bible verses. When we keep them hidden in our hearts, we can speak them out loud and remind ourselves at any moment what God says.
I have tried to make more of an effort to remember verses off by heart. I pray that God leads me to the verses that I need within me in the weeks to come, and I learn them word for word. It’s my armour and protection, my sword and my strength.
Don’t underestimate the power and the importance of hiding the Word within your heart.
