But with the help of God…
1 Thessalonians 2:2 – We had previously suffered and been insulted in Philippi, as you know, but with the help of our God we dared to tell his gospel in spite of strong opposition.
Paul is by far one of my favourite people within the Bible. I just wish I had faith as big as his. That in the midst of strong opposition, he still turned to God for help. In those days, opposition wouldn’t have been quite the same as the opposition we find today. It would very simply have been life or death. Yet Paul didn’t back out and run away, but he pressed on knowing that God was faithful enough to help them through the toughest of situations.
Isn’t that amazing? I mean, I struggle whenever I have to explain to strangers that my blog is based on faith. And there’s Paul, preaching the gospel to people in the midst of people who were ready to kill him.
I’m sure he was scared and I’m sure he was tempted to walk away, but the key part of this verse is that he sought the help of our God. Don’t underestimate the power of God’s help. He can make any impossible thing possible.
Seek His help today. Ask Him to come alongside whatever you’re struggling with. Soon you’ll be saying “…but with the help of our God, I did it…”.
