Be up and awake
Romans 13:11-14 – But make sure that you don’t get so absorbed and exhausted in taking care of all your day-by-day obligations that you lose track of the time and doze off, oblivious to God. The night is about over, dawn is about to break. Be up and awake to what God is doing! God is putting the finishing touches on the salvation work he began when we first believed. We can’t afford to waste a minute, must not squander these precious daylight hours in frivolity and indulgence, in sleeping around and dissipation, in bickering and grabbing everything in sight. Get out of bed and get dressed! Don’t loiter and linger, waiting until the very last minute. Dress yourselves in Christ, and be up and about!
This verse is exactly what I have been needing to hear for quite a while now. Isn’t it just so true?! We get so self-absorbed – worried about what I am doing today and tomorrow, what people are saying about me, how I am going to get here and who cares about me. We’re all so busy playing the comparison game that we totally forget what we’re here on Earth to do!
God needs us out there, getting our hands dirty. He needs us to be looking for the lost and point the way back home. He needs us to be clothing ourselves with His armour so that we’re ready to put up a fight. He needs us right there in the middle of what He is doing.
We need to get ourselves out of our comfort zones and into the battle zones. We can’t afford to waste a minute – we need to wake up and realise what God is doing.
So today, as you’re reading this – dress yourself in Christ. Put on His peace, embrace His grace and arm yourself with His Word. Drink in His forgiveness so that you’re ready and prepared to pour it out. Prepare to love someone today who really needs it.
