Learn His ways
Proverbs 22:24-25 – Do not make friends with a hot tempered person, do not associate with one easily angered, or you may learn their ways and get yourself ensnared.
“Show me your friends and I’ll show you your future” comes to mind when I read this verse.
Who are you spending most of your time with? And what impact are they having in your life?
It’s so easy to pick up someone else’s habits, which ultimately leads to picking up someone else’s thought-patterns. If they’re constantly speaking negatively, gossiping or slandering others and you’re constantly in the presence of that, it will become your normal. What they think could become what you think, changing the way you act the things you say.
I have seen it in my own life, when spending a lot of time with people who gossiped about and mocked others, I found myself thinking similar thoughts. But when I changed my circle of friends, my life quickly changed too. I had friends speaking truth into my life, and from their ways I learnt His ways, which then changed my ways.
When choosing to spend time with faith-filled people, who are pursuing God, the conversations change. The activities change. The whole lifestyle changes.
I love how even Jesus had a close knit circle of good friends who He spent more time with. He knew their heart, so He knew that He could entrust His time with them.
Who are you trusting your time with? Whose ways are you learning?
