First His Kingdom
Proverbs 3:9-10 – Honour the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to the overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.
I remember the days when I rolled my eyes during the offering messages in church. I used to think tithing was a ploy for churches to get more money, but now that I understand God’s purpose for it, it’s become an important part of mine and Bradley’s lives.
To put it simply, you can never go wrong when you put God first in every single area of your life – not just financially. He wants to be the center of our lives, always coming first – not for His benefit, but purely for ours. When we make room to give Him our firsts, He comes in and gives us so much more. He’s the God of the overflowing and brimming over. He’s not stingy or greedy. His provision is limitless!
My novel writing course with Penguin starts tomorrow. Bradley and I sat down to pay for it together around a month ago. It’s an expensive course, which made me nervous and hesitant about signing up. We prayed about and really felt God saying it was right. Around the same time as that happened, our church was having a miracle offering, called Heart for the House.
Before we paid for the course, we made the decision to give 10% of the price of the course for our miracle offering to the church. We felt that it was a way of us saying “God, this course is yours! Have your will – we can’t do this without you”.
We then went online to pay for the course, and right at the checkout page, a pop-up appeared saying “you have a 10% discount”. Both of our mouths fell open in total disbelief. Since then, we have also been blessed with someone in our lives blessing us with money of half of the course.God opens doors and pours out blessings when you put Him first, friends! Not just in your finances, but also your relationship, work-life, family, and everything else. Give Him with your firsts, and He will give you so much more.
