Psalm 8:3-4 – I look up at your macro-skies, dark and enormous, your handmade sky-jewelry, moon and stars mounted in their settings. Then I look at my micro-self and wonder, why do you bother with us? Why take a second look our way?
I was reminded of this Psalm about a week ago, when I saw this beautiful sunset happening outside my bedroom window. I was in total awe of all that God can do – the beauty that He creates on a daily basis, just because He can.
Why does He bother with us? He has nature to work with, and nature actually listens. Where as we are faulted in our ways, battling with vain thinking and self-centered actions. We forget Him on a daily basis, chasing other gods and looking for love and acceptance elsewhere.
As hard as it is to comprehend, He does bother with us. He loves us regardless, and pursues us anyway. He spoils us with His marvelous wonders. Just as He plans for the sun to rise and set each morning, He has plans and hopes for us. He doesn’t just take a second look our way – He is constantly looking our way. He is constantly loving us, constantly wanting us and constantly providing for us.
So take a moment today to stand in awe of all that He is and everything that He can do. Praise Him for His wondrous works, and thank Him for still bothering with our micro, disappointing and unfaithful selves. The God who put the stars in the sky is holding us in those very same hands.
