Beauty within the darkness
Psalm 18:28 – You, Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.
Bradley and I went to Miami last weekend. We landed on Saturday evening at around 8pm. It was already dark when we hit the ground. As we traveled through the streets of Downtown Miami on the way to our hotel, we could only see what the lit streetlamps and the light from the windows of buildings revealed to us.
The next morning as we explored the area around our hotel, we were amazed at how different everything looked. We noticed the many palm trees situated all along the streets. We saw that there was an ocean right next to our hotel! There was colourful grafitti painted all along the walls of one road.
We didn’t notice any of these beautiful features in the darkness. We saw a limited view of Miami – missing most of it’s beauty.
Sometimes when life is challenging and new trials are thrown your way, it can feel as if you’re sitting within the darkness. It has a sly and deceitful way of convincing you that your life is limited, small and lacking wonder. But I promise you, God has the ability to turn any darkness into light. And when He does, you will notice that your life is bright, large and so beautiful. All of that beauty is just hidden within the darkness you’re in right now. Don’t let the darkness fool you into believing that your life isn’t full of purpose and beauty.
Just wait for that wondrous sunrise… it will reveal more than you could ever know.
