Exodus 33:14 – The Lord replied, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
Just before this verse, Moses asks God for a sign as to where to lead the Israelites to their promised land. He prays that God will guide him. This verse was God’s response.
When I first read it I felt frustrated on Moses’ behalf. Just one sign God, that’s all he asked for.
But after lingering on the verse for a little while longer I came to the realisation that God gave Moses something way better than just a stingy old sign. He could have easily said, “turn left, then right and then when you get to the camels and the donkeys, make a 80 degree turn north and carry on for 5 miles”.
Instead of giving Moses a guide as to where to go, He became their Guide. He personally led them. They didn’t need to worry or fret, because their God was leading them exactly where they needed to go. Their souls could rest in His faithful presence, knowing that they would safely arrive at their destination.
Isn’t that just beautiful?
The same goes for us. The God of all of Heaven and Earth is personally with us. He isn’t distant – sat high in the sky sending signs through messages in bottles. He’s close and personal. He’s with us.
