A new start
Romans 12:2 – Do not conform to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
I remember the day I got saved – the moment I raised my hand in the back of church to say that I was declaring Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. It felt liberating, as if I was stepping into a whole new beginning. I made that moment a fresh start in my life – I decided to think differently, talk differently and act differently. I changed what I was reading, what music I was listening to and the friends I was spending most of my time with. It was a new start.
When I read this verse, it reminds me of that moment when I took my eyes off of the world and myself and fixed them on Jesus. But the way that Paul has written this doesn’t say to just do it once. You don’t just renew your mind once when you get saved – it’s an action that needs to take place often.
You need to remind yourself to renew your mind. Just imagine how liberating each and every day could and would feel if you took the time to start afresh, by putting Jesus first. I love it – it makes me excited for each day’s prospects!
Start today – put everything else aside for a moment and just remind yourself of who God is and all that He’s already done in your life. Take yourself back to that moment when you were first set free by His grace.
