Free for Him
1 Corinthians 9:19 – Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.
This was written by Paul. If you know a bit about Paul’s story, you’ll know that he was spent around 6 years of his ministry life in prison. I love that even though he was physically imprisoned, he could still recognise his true freedom. His heart was still set free by his Saviour.
Not only that, but he made the choice to “make himself a slave to everyone”. When you are truly set free by Jesus Christ and you spend more time getting to know Him, you’ll learn that His greatest desire for your life is for you to dedicate it to His mission. Not because He needs you, but because it will lead you to living the best life you can.
So in Paul making himself a slave to everyone, he’s dedicating his life to Jesus Christ – the One who set him free. He isn’t dedicating it to his friends, other leaders or even himself. He’s living solely for Jesus and spending his time showing the lost who Jesus really is.
Who and what are you dedicating your life to?
For me, in reading this verse, it made me think about why I’m doing what I’m doing. Why am I really doing these devotionals every day? Why am I leading a youth group with Bradley? Why am I writing a novel?
For myself? For others’ approval? Or for the One who gave me this freedom? The One who has a plan greater than my own? The One who is so desperate to save the lost?
