Rich or enriched?
Proverbs 23:4 – Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness. Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone.
Wealth isn’t eternal. I remember when attending a church service when I was younger, where the preacher spoke about how you can’t take money with you to heaven. He held a five pound note in his hand and said that no matter how tightly he held onto it, it wouldn’t come with him after he died.
We spend so much time of our lives fixated on wealth. Too many people believe that the more money you have, the more successful your life is.
But God doesn’t define success, joy or true living by riches. He doesn’t care about how much our houses are worth or whether we’re wearing cashmere knit sweaters or Primark jogging bottoms. He cares about true, heavenly treasure – the kind that enriches our souls.
He cares about honour, peace, joy, grace, forgiveness, humility, favour and unfailing faith. He cares about sacrificial love and undying hope and freedom that comes with living for Jesus Christ.
A Godly life is not about being rich, but being enriched.
