Matthew 23:11 – “Do you want to stand out? Them step down. Be a servant. If you puff yourself up, you’ll get the wind knocked out of you.”
I love how Jesus spent His time on earth serving people. He was known for getting down on His knees and washing people’s feet. Bare in mind that this was in a time before closed shoes and foot scrub existed. Jesus, the Prince of Peace, King of Heaven, wasn’t too proud to get His hands dirty in order to make other’s feel valued.
In today’s society we are led to believe that you are successful when you’re at the top. You’ve made it when you can look down at others and tell them what they need to do. Of course, this is how many jobs work. But this isn’t how God works. He doesn’t rank people. He doesn’t require some people to serve more and others to serve less just because they’re more righteous, special or faithful.
The truth is that God sees us all as the same, and He calls each of us to serve the people around us. May I encourage you today to stand out and be bold enough to become a servant for Christ?
