A place of revelation
Jonah 1:17 – Now the Lord provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
I found this story absolutely terrifying the first time I heard it in Sunday School. I remember telling myself “Mieke, never run away from God or he will put you in a fish’s belly“.
Although it was most probably also absolutely terrifying for Jonah, being stuck in a fish for three days and three nights, I have no doubt that this was one of the best things that could ever have happened to him. God knew that He needed to get Jonah into a place of isolation, a place that was uncomfortable, in order for Jonah to have a revelation.
Before this had happened, Jonah had tried to flee from God. He tried to run away from what God was calling Him to do. But God knew that if Jonah kept running away, he would run into some bigger problems. God protected Jonah. He gave Jonah the opportunity to truly seek Him.
I wonder whether when we get into an uncomfortable season, we’re too busy disliking where we are that we miss what God is trying to teach us. I believe that He is purposeful with His positioning. He knows exactly where we need to be in order to learn what we need in order to move forward for His glory.
He isn’t punishing you. He’s getting you into a place of revelation so that you can get into a season of acceleration.
