Show the way
John 1:6-8 – There once was a man, his name was John, sent by God to point out the way to the Life-Light. He came to show everyone where to look, who to believe in. John was not himself the Light; he was there to show the way to the Light.
I love how God used John. His whole life, he lived to serve Him. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that John had this modesty and that He was so greatly used by God. He knew that it wasn’t the John-show. He knew that in order to truly, fully serve God with a pure heart, it wasn’t about him.
John did everything he could to point people to the Light of the earth. He didn’t claim the light for himself. He was a sign-post to Jesus. I think once we can get ourselves into such a mindset, God can use us as at His best.
It’s not an easy thing to do in a world that believes the more light we can shine on ourselves, the more successful we are. It’s polar opposite to what the world does and believes. But that’s the beauty of following and serving Christ – the complete joy and peace that He places in our hearts, replaces that need for acceptance and limelight.
Just like a traffic cone, it isn’t the light itself, but is a reflective of a light. We can reflect His light and do what He needs us to do – light up the way in the darkness.
