A humble beginning
Luke 2:6-7 – While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
I love that the Prince of Peace, Saviour of the World and the Son of the Most High King in Heaven was born in a manger. He lay there, with His humble mother and father, who could only wrap him in some cloths and look at Him with love in their eyes. He wasn’t born into lavish luxury like you may expect for royalty. He had a humble beginning.
I wonder if people in those days heard of His birth and doubted His future. I wonder if they questioned who He really was just because of His beginning. In fact, if the people then had truly known who Jesus was, I’m sure they would have made room available for Mary to give birth to Him.
The Bible shows us that Jesus was and is exactly who God said He was. He performed life-changing miracle after miracle. He saved the world – changing it for the better, forever. He made a way when no one else could make a way. He was Love set down in human form. The King of Heaven’s answer to mortality.
Don’t despise any small beginnings you may have in your life right now. If you feel as though you’re not amounting to much just yet – as though your start isn’t as beautiful and large as it could be, it doesn’t mean God’s plan for your life isn’t big. God loves a small and humble beginning. You are exactly who God says you are – anointed, appointed, loved, righteous and called. Your future is exactly what God says it is – filled with a hope and purpose.
