A promised Immanuel
Isaiah 7:14 – Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
Immanuel means God with us. He spoke this promise several hundreds of years before Jesus was born. He promised the people of the earth a God who would come to the earth and be with them from then to eternity. His promise was fulfilled on the day that Mary gave birth to Jesus in the manger, underneath a bright shining star that lit up the darkest night sky.
We are living in that promise now. We have the honour of having God with us here today and tomorrow and forever more. That’s what I love about Christmas – the beautiful reminder of a faithful God who delivers promises. Not just any promises, but those that change the course of the world forever.
Through God sending Jesus, His one and only Son, to this broken and begotten world, we now can live forever. We can live freely, basking in His glorious love and faithfulness. Our heavy weights are lifted from our shoulders thanks to His beautiful grace.
God is with you – through everything and anything, always and forever.
