Jesus is in the boat
Then Jesus got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?”
Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”
The funny thing about this story is that just a couple of verses beforehand, the disciples had just witnessed Jesus performing many miracles. They were with him when he healed person after person who encountered him. They were right next to him for all of it.
But when they themselves were in danger, caught up in a violent storm whilst on their boat – they forgot who Jesus was. They forgot about all of the miracles they had seen Him perform. They forgot that He was the Song of God.
They woke Him up to tell Him that they were all about to drown. Did they forget that Jesus is all-knowing? That Jesus knew before they even stepped onto the boat that a storm was on the way?
Sometimes it’s easy to see what miracle God is doing in someone else’s life, and forget that He can do the same in yours. Don’t forget that Jesus is in your boat too. Don’t forget who He is, what He has already done and what He is still promising to do.
Your situation isn’t going to drown you because Jesus is in the boat.
