Overflowing with thankfulness
Colossians 2:6-7 – So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
Have you ever heard the quote “imagine if you woke up tomorrow with only the things you thanked God for today”? It really makes me think.
There are days where I get so involved and so stuck in my situation and my to-do list that I completely forget to look around and be thankful for the many blessings in my life. For example, there was a day last week that I was just feeling so unwell and run-down. Feeling sick made me realise how much I take being healthy for granted. So the next day when I was feeling back to normal, as I did my day-to-day things, everything seemed brighter and easier. I was so much more thankful for feeling good.
Imagine if we did this everyday? If we took the time in our busy schedules to just count our blessings. Whether it be health, family, relationships, friendships, a paying job, good weather, safety. The list goes on forever.
Those things are liable to change, obviously. But one thing that doesn’t change is Jesus Christ. He stays the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. His love doesn’t fade and it doesn’t fail. His ultimate sacrifice on the cross won it all, and nothing will ever change that. So we can always be thankful for our Saviour. We will always find the biggest blessing in Jesus Christ, but the only we way we can cultivate that thankfulness day in and day out is through being rooted in who He is.
