Seek Him first
Matthew 6:25-27 – “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
I believe Jesus is intentional when He speaks this truth in this particular order. He first addresses our worries – our meaningless worries that get us nowhere. And then a few sentences later, He addresses how to not worry. Because saying ‘don’t worry!’ is always easier said than done, right?
Jesus gives us a recipe for not worrying – He says seek God first! When you wake up in the morning, seek Him first. Seek His word, His truth and His promises first. When you start to worry about your money, clothing or what you’re going to eat – seek Him first. Interrupt those anxious thoughts with Godly, Heavenly thoughts.
When you seek Him, you’ll be reminded that He is faithful and that He has a plan and a purpose. You’ll remember that He has never disappointed you before, so why would He do it again? You’ll remember what He did for Abraham, Moses, Noah, Joshua and David. You’ll remember who you are IN Him.
