Hebrews 11:8 – By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went even though he did not know where he was going. By faith, he made his home in the promise land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs of the same promise.
This is just an example of the size of Abraham’s faith. He was known for his faith in God and His promise. Everything he was asked to God to do, he did – by faith.
Bradley and I went for our marriage prep meeting a couple of weeks ago, and our pastor challenged us with the question – as a couple, what do you want to be known for?
I believe this applies to every area of our lives. As a leader in church, what do I want to be known for? As a friend, what do I want to be known for? As a wife to Bradley, what do I want to be known for? As a child of God, what do I want to be known for?
Abraham was known for his faith in God. He is, still to this day, known as the father of faith throughout the Bible.
I have decided that I want to be known for my relationship with God. I want to be known for being honest and raw, a window to what it’s like to love and be loved by our Saviour. I want to be known for being rooted in the Bible, depending on His word and His truth as if it’s the air I breath. I want to be known as a good friend – one who cares, listens and loves even when it’s difficult. I want to be known as a faithful wife – one who puts God first in our decisions and our love to one another.
All of this requires me to rely on God. I need to pray for Him to make all of this happen. I need His grace, guidance and favour. I need His wisdom, and I need to know Him more and more.
What do you want to be known for? What steps are you going to take to make it happen? Decide what you want for you life, and then chase after it with God by your side.
