Acts 2:42-47 – They devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Today is the first day that I’ve really started studying the book of Acts. It was written by Luke, who accompanied the apostle Paul on his many missionary journeys after Jesus was resurrected and taken to Heaven.
This verse here, is just after Jesus ascended to Heaven and the Holy Spirit came down to dwell in believers. The disciples gathered together, and spoke of Jesus everywhere they went. They shared the gospel and explained the Holy Spirit to people everywhere.
Every time, more and more people were being saved and started to believe in Jesus. All the believers gathered together to share their faith and live our His Word.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that these people were continually filled with awe at the wonders and signs that were taking place in front of them. I also don’t think it’s a coincidence that God was saving more and more people daily. There’s something about believers gathering together. It’s called fellowship in the Bible.
When we come together, God works – not because of the believers but because of Who they believe in.
Are you believing alongside other people? Get yourself rooted in a church community and watch how God transforms your world and uses you to change other people’s lives. Gathering together with other faith-filled people is so important.
