Proverbs 29:25 – The fear of human opinion disables; trusting in God protects you from that.
I raise my hand, and admit that I am a sucker for worrying about other peoples opinions. It held me back in my relationship with God for a very long time. I was constantly afraid of what my friends, and sometimes even people who weren’t even my friends, would think of me. Would they think I was a loser? Would they think I was a bit psycho for trusting in a God I can’t see or touch? Would they see me as weak? So many of these thoughts ran through my mind for years.
The wording in the Message translation of this verse hits the nail, in my opinion. Fearing other people’s opinion disables you. It slows you down. It weakens you. It limits you. It stops you.
Are you worrying about other people’s opinions of you? Of what you do, where you’re from or who you are?
Remember who you are in Christ. Remember that you have been chosen by the King of Heaven, and that He has a specific call and purpose for your life. He is sovereign – He will never change and He will never fail.
What other people think will never change what God thinks about you. He thinks only lovely thoughts about you.
Don’t let the fear of other people’s thoughts take you out of the race. Be who God has made you to be, and walk in confidence, knowing that He is guiding your every step.
