I am the way
John 14:5-6 – Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Driving into Oxford from where I live is the biggest mission ever. I live and hour and a half away on a good traffic day, however due to Oxford and it’s need for continual, never-ending roadworks, a good traffic day is really hard to come by. I always sit in my car before I start my journey and enter my destination into Google maps and figure out which way will be the quickest and most convenient.
Isn’t that what most of us do in our lives too? We just want the quickest, most convenient route. We don’t even know where we’re going but we want it to be good. We don’t want stress, delay or trouble. We just want to get where we need to be the easiest way possible.
But in this verse, Jesus reminds us that He is the way. He is the way, the truth and the life! Is your life Jesus? Because I admit that sometimes my life can focus on other things like money, Bradley, how I look, the number of views on my blog or how many friends I have.
That’s not how Jesus wants us to live our lives – He wants to be the center of attention, the focal point of why we’re doing what we’re doing. He wants to be our 6am sunrise, our lunchtime thoughts and our evening prayers. He wants us to be going towards Him every single day of our lives. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. When people ask me where I’m heading with my life, I want to be able to say to Jesus!
