He made himself nothing
Philippians 2:5-8 – In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death – even death on a cross.
The definition of humility is having a lack of pride and a lack of vanity, having a modest view of one’s importance.
Jesus’ humility amazes me every time I open the Bible. I love how He was the Son of God, yet He was born in a stable. I love how He is the Prince of Peace yet He spent His every day serving the very men who betrayed Him and spreading the Good News. I love how He is the King of Heaven, Lord of all, yet He sacrificed His own life on a cross, the most painful death of all.
His humility is what we should strive for. Today, think of how you can make yourself nothing. How can you honour someone else in making yourself less? What compromises and sacrifices can you make for someone else’s benefit, not because of what they’ve done for you but because of what Jesus did over 2000 years ago?
