Zechariah 4:10 – “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.”
When God plants a dream seed in our hearts, it’s pretty much always a small seed. When He gives a vision for what we’re being called to do and who we are called to be, it always starts off small. It’s exciting and totally wonderful to know in what direction you want to be heading. But frustration kicks in when you have the vision, but where you are right now is still so far away from that vision.
It was the same for me in my writing – I started off feeling confident and strong in my calling. I was excited and had so many new ideas of what I could do and where I would one day end up. But in between where you want to be and where you are right now is a lot of hard work, perseverance and character-building. That’s what I feel God likes to call the watering process.
The watering of the seed takes time, commitment and consistency. For a long time it doesn’t look like anything’s happening, but eventually you’ll see a little sprout that grows and grows, gets stronger and then eventually bloom beautiful and wonderful colours.
It never gets there over night.
Don’t despise your small beginning, no matter how long you feel like you’ve been stuck there for. Remember that the Lord rejoices in the watering process. He rejoices when He sees you working on your dream. He rejoices when you persevere when you really don’t feel like carrying on. He rejoices every single moment.
