2 Timothy 1:7 – For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
In the year that Bradley and I have been very blessed to be youth leaders at our church, we have come to learn that the majority of youth really struggle with confidence. Particularly when it comes to speaking about their faith. This is something I can fully relate to. It was my main struggle when growing up, even after becoming an adult.
I have been really prayerful about this topic recently – how to tackle it and how to encourage those who struggle with it. I read this verse and coincidentally was using my “FEARLESS” pencil to underline it. It made me think…
As followers of Christ, we need to realise that God doesn’t give us a spirit of timidness. What He gives us is so much more powerful than that. He gives us power, love and self-discipline, which I reckon is the perfect recipe for living fearlessly in the will of God.
We can go to school, university and work every morning knowing that God is well and truly with us. His power is in us. His love is in us. His grace is in us. His mercy is in us. His forgiveness is in us. His peace is in us. Nothing and no-one else can touch that. It doesn’t matter what they say, what they believe or what they do – we are children of the most high God and always will be. We have authority to live fearlessly and confidently.
