What is my calling?
Philippians 2:13 – For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
There are four key parts to this verse that will change the way you think about your future. Most people want to have a goal – an end destination. Some people want a successful career in business. Others want to be known for doing something really good. A few people, like me, want to write a book one day and encourage people from all parts of the world.
Whatever it is, pretty much all of us want a dream/ vision/calling to follow and strive after.
Are you wondering what your calling is?
Know that the moment you accept Jesus Christ as the Lord of your life, you also hand over the keys to your future. The first part of the verse says that God is working in you. Trust that wherever you are right now, He is working in you. He has you where you are, doing what you’re doing for a purpose. It may not, and probably won’t, be the same place that God will have you in 5 years time. Perhaps you won’t see the reasoning behind it right now but one day looking back, you will.
Over time (His time), God plants seeds in our hearts. Seeds of desire. Seeds of vision. Seeds of a possible future that we can glimpse. Those seeds are His seeds of hope. Is there a dream in your heart that you always just thought was too distant? Or impossible?
Chances are that it’s a God-dream, that God intends to make happen. Not only does God give you the desire but He also gives you the power to follow your calling.
And last but not least, you know your dream is a God-calling when it ultimately glorifies His name. This doesn’t mean that you can only ever be a pastor or salvation army volunteer. God has a funny way of bringing glory to His name through anything and everything.
