When He calls
Joshua 1:9 – “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
I had the best German teacher – she totally believed in me. Every lesson, she would encourage me and tell me to aim even higher. She didn’t say it out as criticism, but rather because she wanted me to do even better because she knew I could. She, being fluent in speaking German, knew what it took to become good at speaking German. And because she believed in me, I truly believed I could do better too.
I reckon that’s how Joshua might have felt in this verse. As the God of all the Earth tells Him to be strong and courageous because He has commanded him to do so. God, who knows everything about Joshua, the universe and the future, believed in Him. That’s got to be some great confirmation.
How would you approach your day knowing that God believes in you? That God is commanding you to be your best, simply because He made you that way. You don’t have to be afraid or discouraged anymore because He’s on your side.
