The choice to shine
Matthew 5:14 – “you are the light of this world. A town built on hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your father in heaven.”
Do you know that Jesus has given you the authority to shine His light? You have His light within you.
It’s easy for each of us to limit ourselves. It’s actually a bad habit I have had to force myself to break – I still trip up every now and again. For example, the church Bradley and I go to is an hour and a half drive away. This means that we need to wake up before 6am every Sunday to make it on time to serve. Now, I’m really not a morning person but each Sunday I have the choice as to whether I’m going to get up, get myself ready and go to church so that I can shine His light. If I choose to stay in bed, I know that I will have missed an opportunity.
In every part of your world, you are the light in the darkness. Whether it’s at work, in your family or your friendship group at school. You have the choice as to whether you are going to place yourself on your stand and give light to everyone in the room. It doesn’t mean that you need to choke people with scriptures every day. No, instead it means that you live the life that God has called you to live. You live free from judgment and sin, free from fear and you live wholeheartedly for Jesus. You shine His light.
