Love, just as Christ loved us
I think the majority of people are gruesomely lonely. We’re stuck in a tunnel of doing things our own way, society’s way, by ourselves. We can easily leave the house and not have to talk to anybody all day. I think the world today is suffering with a big gaping hole – a lack of love.
Usually we only want to love when we’re being loved in return. That’s how any healthy, thriving relationship/friendship works, right? Love for us, is a two way street.
As I was reading Ephesians the other day, I realised that every single one of us are already loved in return. And not just any love – a big, unimaginable, unconditional, life-changing kind of love.
In Ephesians 5:1-2 Paul tells us to Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children, and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Christ has already loved us. He has been loving us for longer than we have even been alive. Now it’s our turn to love. Now it’s our turn to pour out our own sacrificial, even-when-it-hurts kind of love. We need to love the broken, love the annoying person on the bus, love our siblings, love the sick. We need to love even when we don’t feel like it – even when we don’t understand.
Just as Christ loved us.
