In Times of Trouble
The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble.
Those who know your name trust in you,
for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.
Here are a couple of definitions of key words in the verse.
Refuge: a state of being safe/ sheltered from danger or difficulty.
Oppressed: a state of being burdened by troubles or stress.
Stronghold: A fortress, castle, tower. Any place of safety and protection.
I am head-over-heels in love with this verse. I think it’s so romantic. Doesn’t everyone need a saviour? A knight in shining armour? Someone who, in times of trouble, can come and instantly protect you? Who can take you away to their tower of safety?
This is the kind of verse you should write down. When you’re stressed, or life is getting slightly too heavy, read this over. Remind yourself of the King in Heaven who declares Himself as your refuge. Take that moment to know that you are being kept in His castle, where you are safe and protected.
You can trust in Him because you know His name. You know how majestic His name is. You know what He’s done for others. You know of His unfailing love and His unchanging faithfulness. Know that when you seek refuge in Him, He will never forsake you.
