Matthew 2:10 – When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
I love to picture the night sky when Jesus was born. I think God was intentional with this picture. A star, shining so brightly in the darkness.
Isn’t that exactly what happened to the world when Jesus Christ was born? The darkness – the hurt, the depression, the disappointment, the brokenness, the sin – was defeated the moment the Light of the world came to earth. Jesus’ light shone bright throughout the darkness, exposing it for what it really is.
The beauty of it all is that He still is. He’s still shining bright – in the midst of all that’s going on in the world. Jesus is the light. He’s the only hope for the world. And we have access to Him. We can invite Him into our broken hearts, letting His light shine through us.
We can rejoice with exceeding great joy because of this precious gift we have been given. We don’t deserve Him – none of us do. But we have Him. We have Jesus here with us, thanks to our Heavenly Father’s gracious mercy and faithfulness.
So have a merry Christmas today, taking a moment every so often to rejoice with exceeding great joy at the Star that shines so brightly in this dark world.
