Get the word out
1 Timothy 4:11-12 – Get the word out. Teach all these things. And don’t let anyone put you down because you’re young. Teach believers with your life: by word, by demeanor, by love, by faith, by integrity. Stay at your post reading Scripture, giving counsel, teaching.
1 Timothy 4:15-16 – Cultivate these things. Immerse yourself in them. The people will all see you mature right before their eyes! Keep a firm grip on both your character and your teaching. Don’t be diverted. Just keep at it! Both you and those who hear you will experience salvation.
Someone commented this verse on one of my blog posts, and it instantly clicked in my heart. I love Paul’s passion in this entire chapter, and specifically these verses. This is something I’m planning on sharing with our youth group at church.
Don’t let anyone put you down because you’re young! Whether you feel young in age or new to faith. Just because you may not have read your Bible as much as other people around you doesn’t mean that Jesus can’t still use you. Just because you don’t know all of the Bible stories, doesn’t mean that you’re faith isn’t big enough.
The most important part of this verse is when Paul says to teach with your life. How are you living? What words are you speaking? How are you loving? Who are you loving?
How you live reflects your heart (Proverbs 27:19). You can be preaching the message of Jesus Christ simply by living your every-day normal life. You don’t need a stage or a pulpit. You don’t need Bible school. You don’t need a blog with followers. All you need to do is live your life with faith, and people will see your heart. People will see that there’s something different about you, and that something is the One.
I love how at the end of that second verse, Paul says that you and those who hear you will experience salvation. Not might, but will. That’s a promise! An encouraging promise at that, too.
