In its own time
Ecclesiastes 3:11 – He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
My mum loves flowers. We almost always have a vase of flowers in the hallway of our house. Yesterday she came home with a bunch of green stemmed flowers, with no actual flowers bloomed. They looked like green sticks. I looked at them, a bit confused.
This morning when I came down stairs I noticed the same bunch of flowers, but each of them had a tiny bit of yellow poking through the ends. They are starting to blossom. They’re not totally there yet, but I’m sure when I come downstairs tomorrow and the days after, there will be a vase filled with beautiful, bright yellow daffodils.
I think the Bible verse above can easily be misunderstood. Some things in life aren’t beautiful. A broken relationship isn’t beautiful. Depression isn’t beautiful. Cancer isn’t beautiful.
The thing is, that God never intends bad things to happen to us. He didn’t write out our stories and plan for us to encounter sadness or struggle. That all comes with living in a fallen, broken world. But what God does promise is to make make everything beautiful.
Romans 8:28 – And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.
God can take a bad thing and make it a good thing. God can take the broken pieces of our lives and make them beautiful.
Maybe be won’t be able to see it with our eyes. Maybe what God does is just so big, so bold, so Godly, that our human minds can never fathom, never fully understand what He’s doing and just how beautiful it he is making it.
But you can rest, knowing that what God promises, He always delivers in His own time. Everything is made beautiful in its own time, not ours.
