Go To Jesus
I have learned that nothing in the Bible is a coincidence. Everything written in there, and the way in which it is written has meaning and purpose behind it.
John 4 is one of my favourite chapters – mainly because I love the story of the Samaritan woman. Jesus goes to a town in Samaria especially to meet this woman, and that encounter completely changes her life.
But something I have recently noticed is that within that same chapter is another story. Just after the story about Jesus going to meet the Samaritan woman, is a story about a man going to meet Jesus.
The man (he was a royal official) had heard that Jesus had just come to Galilee.
John 4:47 – He went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death (his son lay sick at Capernaum).
“Unless you people see signs and wonders,” Jesus told him, “you will never believe.”
The royal official said “Sir, come down before my child dies.”
“Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.”
The man took Jesus at his word and departed. While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living.
Sometimes, when we’re going through something difficult we expect Jesus to show up. We even say “if God is real, he’ll heal me”, or “surely if He really cares, He’ll fix this”. This chapter shows us how God does show up in someone’s life, but also how one man who was probably going through the hardest situation of all, got up and went to go find Jesus. He left his dying son in faith, believing that if He just went and found Jesus, that He could make it right.
He walked away from his troubles and went to Jesus.
Maybe you’re waiting for Jesus to show up in your situation, but you really need to go and find Jesus yourself. Maybe you need to walk in faith, believing for Jesus to perform a miracle in your life. Maybe you just need to get up and go to Jesus.
