Matthew 19:20 – (Jesus said) “Take this most seriously: A yes on earth is a yes in heaven; a no on earth is no in heaven. What you say to one another is eternal. I mean this. When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action. And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I’ll be there.”
Jesus is telling us plain and simple here that there is power in community. God works when you get together with another faith-filled person. When you share your faith, and come together to pray for your needs.
A month ago today one of my close friends and I decided to become partners in payer. We made the decision to tell each other when we had something going on in our lives (no matter how big or small) that we needed prayer for.
We both have a list in our journals of the other person’s prayer needs. We take the time every now and again to look back over that list and pray again. When God answers a prayer we let each other know and we tick it off the list.
Not only has it made as closer as friends, but I fully believe that it has had an impact on our faith. I have seen her grow spiritually and it’s such a blessing to witness it first-hand. God is working in this. He’s working in us.
It’s amazing when someone else is there by your side to encourage you and to simply fire the Word of God at you in a time of need.
This verse reminds me of our church. It’s based on community. A community filled with the passion for Jesus. We want to get around people – to encourage and lift them up through prayer. We know that when we gather, whether it’s in church or at a social event, we’re gathering under His name and we know that He is there too. And that’s powerful.
