Joshua 1:2 – Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them – to the Israelites.
At long last, the promise God made is about to come to pass, and He tells Joshua to get ready.
Now, in my mind I would expect God to give Him some inside knowledge about crossing the Jordan River, or tell him to strengthen up his body. Get a good night’s sleep maybe. Eat some healthy food with protein to provide energy for his endurance.
But instead, God prepares Him by speaking these words…
Joshua 1:7-9 – And don’t for a minute let this Book of The Revelation be out of mind. Ponder on it day and night, making sure you practice everything written in it. Then you’ll get to where you’re going; then you’ll succeed. Haven’t I commanded you? Strength! Courage! Don’t be timid, don’t get discouraged. God, your God, is with you every step you take.
God is telling him to get ready, by arming himself with the Word. He’s telling Joshua to strengthen his knowledge of the Bible, to find courage in what God commands him to do. And then, He finishes by adding that He’s not alone – God will always be with him.
I feel like God is telling you to get ready. He’s about to deliver that promise He spoke over you long ago. He’s about to bring it to pass, and you need to be ready. Get in the Word – find strength and courage in God’s truth. That’s all you need to get where God wants you to go. That’s all you need to succeed.
