2 Corinthians 5:6-8 – That’s why we live with such good cheer. You won’t see us drooping our heads or dragging our feet! Cramped conditions here don’t get us down. They only remind us of the spacious living conditions ahead. It’s what we trust in but don’t yet see that keeps us going. Do you suppose a few ruts in the road or rocks in the path are going to stop us? When the time comes, we’ll be plenty ready to exchange exile for homecoming.
I hate long-haul flights. Whenever I have to fly back home to South Africa, I always dread the journey. I don’t have a phobia of flying, I just find them so uncomfortable and so boring. I hate having to sit in one seat for 12 hours. I hate not being able to open a window for fresh air. It’s a long journey. But the journey doesn’t stop me from traveling and enjoying the destination. I would happily endure the flight to be able to spend a few weeks in South Africa, in the sun with my family.
We’re in the same position here on earth. We’re on the journey to our destination. This world here isn’t our Home. Don’t get too concerned with where you are right now because you won’t be there forever. Instead, concern yourself with Heavenly things.
When life gets uncomfortable and the world disappoints you, remind yourself Where you’re heading and Who is there waiting for you. God promises Heaven to be perfect. One day we’ll be in perfect peace, forever. Nothing and nobody will be able to take it away from you. Keep your eyes on the destination and the One who promises it to you.
