Let your light shine
As a believer of Jesus, it’s pretty much guaranteed that you will come across people who don’t understand. Perhaps some of your closest friends of family are confused by your life and your beliefs. It’s especially difficult when they mock you – whether it’s a little tease or a hard insult.
This is something I really struggled with for a long time. I didn’t speak out about my faith for years, due to being afraid of what people would say and how they would react. I had witnessed Christians being bullied for simply believing in God, and I didn’t want the same to happen to me.
But Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:11 that we are blessed when this happens.
“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
So when you’re being knocked down for loving Jesus – you must be doing something right.
I also love how a few verses later, Jesus continues to say this…
Matthew 5:14-16 – “you are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven”.
Jesus has put a fire in our hearts – we need to let it shine. We need to be the light of the world, like a star in the sky pointing people Home.
