Joshua 3:5 – Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.”
Joshua 3:17 – And there they stood, those priests carrying the Chest of the Covenant stood firmly planted on the dry ground in the middle of the Jordan while all Israel crossed on dry ground. Finally the whole nation was across the Jordan, and not one wet foot.
God told Joshua that they were to cross the River Jordan. He was in the process of delivering His promise that He made to Abraham long, long ago.
In order to get to the other side, the Iraelites needed to trust that God was going to have them cross safely. Imagine if someone told you to go stand on the edge of a river, and then patiently wait for it to part so that you can cross to the other side. Pretty unlikely, right? I think I would have probably laughed.
But the Israelites did trust Him. He had brought them so far already, performing miracle after miracle. They knew that He would do it this time too. The priests stood firmly planted on the ground as the middle of the Jordan parted. They stood there firmly as the whole nation passed through, which I’m guessing must have taken quite a while. They didn’t falter, they didn’t grow impatient. They were firm in their faith as they waited for God to complete His miracle.
Are you standing firmly planted in your faith? Are you standing patiently, waiting for God’s promise to come to pass? Because that’s all God needs you to do, all He asks you to do. To stand firmly where He has planted you.
