Train Of Thought
Philippians 4:8 – Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.
If you had to write down all of your thoughts in your day, what would the majority of them say? Would they be constructive? Would they be positive? Would they be pure? Lovely? Admirable? True? Noble?
Some days mine are the complete opposite. My thoughts can be anxious, doubtful, negative and judgmental.They are usually about myself – the things I do and the way I look. The things other people may be thinking about me.
But Paul is warning us against exactly that in this verse. He’s telling us to think about what we’re thinking about. We need to work on our thoughts. Don’t let your train of thoughts take you to a destination of negativity, bitterness and self-destruction.
He’s telling us to fix our thoughts on Something that is true, noble, right, pure, lovely and admirable – Something excellent and praiseworthy.
The only Thing that ticks all the boxes is Jesus.
Today, think about what you’re thinking about. When you think a negative, meaningless thought, replace it with one about Jesus. Remind yourself that the One who is perfection, is your God. And that He loves you. Think about His good works, and His unfailing promises.
