Nothing can separate
Romans 8:37-39 – No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any power, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is Christ Jesus our Lord.
As I was typing out this verse for today’s devotional, I noticed something really important. You see that word ‘loved’? It’s past tense. He loved us.
It’s not past tense because He doesn’t love us anymore – that would totally be contradicting the verse the word lies in. No, it’s past tense because it’s done.
Jesus Christ loved us on that Cross 2,000 years ago. He loved us when He was crucified, and met His death. He loved us when He bore our sins and faced our death so that we didn’t have to.
He loved us already. Nothing can separate us from His Great Love because it has already happened.
No one on earth and no one in heaven can separate us from His love. Nothing you did in the past, present or future can separate you from His love. Your grades at school, your degree level, your relationship status, your position at work, you not attending church, your children not behaving, your marriage not working, the amount of money in your bank account, the number of friends, the words people say, the words people don’t say, can ever separate you from His love.
He loved you too much to not die for you, and now His love will remain forever and always.
