Romans 12:1-2 – So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: take your everyday, ordinary life – your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life – and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what Goes does for you is the best thing you can do for Him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognise what He wants from you and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, developing well-formed maturity in you.
I love how Paul phrases this verse. What he says is actually quite simple – we should take our normal, everyday life and give it to God. There isn’t some magical formula, or an algebraic equation we need to figure out to live in His will. All that we need to do, is do what we do and do it for God.
All it takes is one prayer every morning when you wake up – ‘God, what do you want from me today? May my day be YOURS and yours alone. Use me.” Look for God in the canteen at lunch. Look for Him when you’re sat on the bus on the way to work. Look for Him in the sunset on your walk home. Look for Him in the lonely person without anyone to talk to at school. Look for Him when you’re at home cooking your dinner.
There’s never a time when God isn’t available. There’s never a time that God can’t be using you.
God is omnipresent and He wants to use you. He wants to bring the best out of you in every area of your life. He wants you to want to be in His will. He wants you so planted in His will that you’ll bloom strong and beautifully, shining His light for all the world to see.
You don’t need to be a pastor or a worship leader to be in God’s will. You don’t need to write down every single prayer or volunteer at every charity shop. You don’t need to have been a Christian for x amount of years.
God will find you where you are and He will always have His will in your life. You just need to open the door for Him.
