The Driver’s Seat
Matthew 16:24-26 – Then Jesus said to his disciples, “anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat; I am. Don’t run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I’ll show you how. Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to finding yourself, your true self. What kind of deal is it to get everything you want but to lose yourself? What could you ever trade your soul for?”
Who is in the driver’s seat of your life? Is it you? Is it your spouse? Is it your boss?
It’s a tough question that requires you to be honest with yourself. A few years ago, I was new to being a follower of Jesus. I was still finding my way in being a Christian. It took me a long time to realise that I needed to hand over the keys, and once I realised that it took me even longer to actually do it.
How can you expect to fully, whole-heartedly follow Jesus and follow God’s word when you are still trying to do your own thing? You are not God. You do not know all things. You can’t see what has been, what is and what is still to come because you’re only human. You can’t see God’s whole plan.
If you want to experience all of who God is and His will for your life, you need to put Him in the driver’s seat. You need to trust that He’s going to lead you to the destination He has for you. You need to believe that His destination is better than yours. You need to have faith that He knows where He’s taking you. You can’t get lost or get off track with Him as your chauffeur. He’s the best GPS out there.
