Some of you are probably really confused by the title of today’s post. Let me explain… Bradley and I attend Hillsong Church in Oxford. We’ve been part of Hillsong Oxford for a few years now, and therefore have become very close to our pastors, Anna and Craig. As soon as we got engaged, we instantly knew that we wanted them to lead our wedding ceremony. However, neither of them are officially ordained, meaning that they couldn’t legally marry us. We needed to have a legal wedding and then have our “Jesus” wedding. It was an option to have an official registrar person at our wedding, but that would have cost us £900 extra. So obviously, we avoided that option.
Instead, we chose to get legally married a couple of days before our real wedding ceremony. We invited only our close family, dressed up and enjoyed ourselves way more than we actually thought we would. It was a short ceremony, only lasting around 10-15 minutes. My dad (who was feeling very snap happy) was our photographer and Megan (my new sister in law!) was our Best Woman/Ring Bearer.
I loved being able to have an extra wedding day just for our family. It was small, cosy and so cute. We went home and had a South African style braai and got each other excited for the real wedding which was only 3 days away at that point.
To be honest, I didn’t feel married after that ceremony. It wasn’t real in my heart yet. I had the just married feeling on our real wedding day and I couldn’t wipe that smile off my face!
So here are the photos from the first wedding. A special thank you to our photographer, Daddy Kotze.
