Dear 24-year-old Mieke,
As I’m writing this, you’ve just turned 23. A number you used to see as ancient, yet now realise feels just as young as 13.
Your 22nd year of life brought you the happiest of memories. The love of your life got down on one knee and asked you to be his forever. He placed that shiny ring on your shaking finger and made your smile stretch into the biggest smile in the world. He wiped your tears and made you laugh all at once. You planned a beautiful wedding with the help of the best of friends and family.
You celebrated – oh, did you celebrate – with three hen-do’s, so many kind words and the most precious gifts just for you and your love. Your friends sure know how to love you.
Your father walked you down the aisle in your 22nd year. He handed you over to your new husband with a firm handshake and tear-filled eyes. He stood next to your mother as he watched his baby girl marry the man of her dreams. The rain poured outside as God sent His heavenly kiss to the happy couple. You danced the night away, hardly believing that you could be so lucky and so blessed.
And now as year number 22 comes to a close, you look back with a smile on your face, so much love in your heart and nothing but pure excitement for what’s ahead.
I hope this next year treats you just as kindly as the past 23. May it be the year that challenges you, strengthens you and changes you in all the best ways. I pray that you remain thankful, sending regular prayers of gratitude to your Father in Heaven, who provides so generously. I pray that your heart remains open – open for new beginnings and accepting of any potential closed doors. May you be hungry for God’s word every single day, desperate to know more, learn more and grow more. On the days when He seems quiet, I pray your faith will trust in His promises.
Oh, I have a feeling that this year is going to be just as wonderful as your last year. I declare that this year your dream of being an author will come to be. Through God’s grace, you will write a beautiful love story. And through God’s provision and favour, your love story will be published. As people read it, they will encounter Him and fall head over heels in love for their Lord and Saviour. May lives be changed all for His glory and not for your own.
May this also be the year that you and your loving husband fall even more in love with each other. I pray that you serve each other with grace, forgiveness, compassion, joy and so much love. I pray that your marriage strengthens and blossoms into something more beautiful than you could ever imagine.
This next year ahead is your year, Mieke Maybury. I just know it.
